Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation - ArtsCONNECT Deadline: March 15, 2010

ArtsCONNECT supports performing arts tours of American and international artists through presenter consortia and partnerships in the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S.

Presenters eligible for support must be located in the Foundation's service area: Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Presenter consortia must include at least three presenting organizations from at least two mid-Atlantic states collaborating to bring the same artist to their communities.

Applications that include presenting organizations from three or more states within the region served by the Foundation will be given priority consideration.

The application deadline applies to projects taking place between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011.

The 2010 ArtsCONNECT Guidelines will be available in mid-November.

2010 Artist in Residency Program, Vallauris, France, Deadline: October 15

Located in the old southern French town of Vallauris, this artists in residency program welcomes international artists from all horizons to meet and collaborate with local artists and to research and create new work. Since April 2002, over 100 creators of different nationalities have taken part in the program.

Benefits: studios, independent furnished bedrooms and a gallery where works are presented at the end of the residency period.

Activities: Workshops, conferences and exhibitions are organized with the resident artists. Partnerships with the local School of Fine Arts, the local government and international organizations.

The Millay Colony for the Arts, Deadline: October 1, 2009

The Millay Colony, an artist-in-residency program located in the Berkshire Mountains of New York, is addressed to writers, visual artists and composers of all ages and career levels. International artists are encouraged to apply.

Located in Austerlitz, at Steepletop, the country estate that belonged to the poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, about 2 1/2 hours north of NYC.

Deadline: October 1, 2009 for residencies between January and December 2010.

Kala Art Institute, Deadline: Oct. 31, 2009

Kala Art Institute is located in the former Heinz ketchup factory in West Berkeley and it's artist-in-residence program provides 24-hour access to it's Print Studio and Electronic Media Center. The program is geared towards providing short- and long-term communal studio space at low monthly rates to both emerging and established artists.

Kala also awards eight cash awards a year, unlimited access to Kala’s facilities for up to six months, and a culminating show in the Kala Gallery, through a highly competitive jurying process. The Fellowship Award is geared towards supporting artists in completing specific projects or bodies of work that would benefit from Kala's specialized equipment.

Deadline: October 31, 2009 for residencies starting in December 2009, January, February or March 2010.

Vermont Studio Center, International Residency Fellowships Deadline: October 1, 2009

The Vermont Studio Center is the largest international residency program in the U.S. and is open year-round to artists and writers from all around the world.

Setting: historic 30-building campus along the Gihon River in Johnson, Vermont, a village in the heart of the northern Green Mountains.

The center hosts residents per month, each of whom receives an individual studio, private room and meals. In addition, their program includes a roster of Visiting Artists and Writers (2 painters, 2 sculptors and 2 writers per month) who offer slide talks/readings and individual studio visits/conferences.

Duration: 2 - 12 weeks

Deadline: October 1, 2009 (recommended deadline for summer 2010 fellowships). Next alternative deadlines: February 15 and June 15, 2010. Best to apply at least 6 mos. prior to preferred start date, though VSC will consider applications received as late as 8 weeks in advance of the month(s) for which one is applying.

Number of awards for international artists (up to 18):

- Vermont Studio Center Fellowships (up to 16), based on merit
- Golden Award (1), for painters, based on merit
- The Rona Jaffe Foundation/Vermont Studio Center Fellowship (1), for an emerging woman writer who will be a first-time resident at VSC.

Ragdale Foundation, Residency Deadline: September 15, 2009

Artist in Residency opportunities addressed to: artists at all stages of their careers and seeks to create a mix of various experience levels in each group of residents. Through a competitive application process, Ragdale offers residencies to visual artists, writers, composers, and interdisciplinary artists such as those working in sound, performance, choreography, etc.

Located at the historic summer home of Arts and Crafts architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, Ragdale exists in a peaceful setting adjacent to over 50 acres of prairie. Residents reside in live/work spaces in the Ragdale House, Barnhouse and Friends' studios. Ragdale is located one mile from downtown Lake Forest, and just 30 miles (only one hour by train) from downtown Chicago.

Application deadline: September 15, 2009 for the January - May 2010 residencies. Length of stay will be determined upon acceptance.

Virginia Center for the Creative Arts - Deadline: September 15, 2009

The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts is an international working retreat for writers, visual artists and composers located at Mount San Angelo, Virginia. For 35 years, the VCC has attracted renowned artists as well as talented younger artists.

Each year over 300 artists participate and, typically, 22 fellows are in residence at the one time. Directly associated with Sweet Briar Collage that generously allows fellows to use many of its facilities and services.

Duration: 2 weeks - 2 months

Deadline: September 15, 2009 for residencies from February to May, 2010

Selection process: highly competitive

Residencies include: private bedroom, three meals a day and private studio

Cost: $180/day. Fellows are requested to contribute according to their ability.
