2009 Woodstock Byrdcliffe Artist in Residence Program, Woodstock, NY

The Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild, located in the Catskill Mountains offers:

* One-month, summer 2009, artist-in-residencies for visual artists, writers and composers.

* One to five-month, May through October 209, ceramics residencies

Goal: providing solitude in community and undisturbed time in which to concentrate on independent, creative work in company of fellow artists.

Applicants: professional recognition is helpful for admission, but is not essential.

Four week sessions (limited to 10 individuals) run:

Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Open Call for 2009-2010 Workspace Studio Residencies

LMCC announces it's Workspace studio residency program in Lower Manhattan for emerging visual artists and writers focussed on the creative process.

Addressed to: emerging and early-career professional artists and writers (including international artists and writers and collaboratives pairsof no more than two (2) people working in all disciplines:

Visual artists: can apply in Drawing, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Film/Video/Installation/Mixed Media, Sound, Performace and New Media/Computer Arts.

Writers: can apply in Fiction, Non-Fiction, Playwriting/Screenwriting, and Poetry.

Benefits: free studio space within a larger, shared space with 24/7 access, a modest one-time stipend (depending on funding), access to a community of peers, meetings and studio visits with arts and literary professionals, and exposure to new audiences through open studios and other public programs.

Period: 9 months (September 2009 - May 2010)

Location: 29th Floor of the historic Equitable Building at 120 Broadway in the financial district.

Montehermoso, Vitoria, Spain - Call for Projects

The Montehermoso Cultural Center, located in Vitoria, northern province of Alava, Spain, is located in a 16th century renaissance palace.

It announces grants for production, curatorial projects and research.

Number of grants for artistic creation: maximum of 8 projects currently in preproduction or production, to pr esent then within Montehermoso's annual program (second quarter of 2010). Benefits: maximum of 10,000 euros/project

Grant for a curatorial project: Benefits not to exceed 21.000 euros.

Grants for research: maximum of 3 research projects, one of which will be related to the History of Feminist Art in Spain. Each research project will be awarded a maximum of 9.000 euros.

Vermont Studio Center, Full Fellowship Awards

The Vermont Studio Center, located in Johnson, Vermont, is an international residency program open to all artists and writers.

Activity: Year-round (2-12 week residencies) 50 artists and writers/month.

Benefits: individual studio, private room, and all meals.

VSC Full Fellowships and a variety of special fellowships will be awarded at the February 17th, 2009 deadline, including:

• VSC Fellowships (16): Open to all artists and writers

• In 2009 the Pollock-Krasner Foundation/VSC Fellowship Program for visual artists of outstanding talent will support three 4-week residencies for domestic artists and one 8-week residency for an international artist.

• Zoland Poetry Fellowships (2): Open to writers of original English-language poetry and poetry translators.

• Golden Award (1): Open to all painters, merit-based

• Brown Foundation (3) Fellowships will be awarded to artists and writers living in Texas.

• Dedalus Foundation (6) fellowships will be awarded to painters whose work is an extension of the modernist tradition as embodied in the work of Robert Motherwell.

• John Pavlis Fellowship Fund (3) fellowships for African-American artists. Renowned painter Katherine Porter will provide two visual artists and one writer a one-month residency in 2009.

• Wheels for Wheels Award (1): Open to an artist or writer who uses a wheelchair and/or has a spinal cord injury.

• Kay Evans Award (1): open to all poets, merit-based; award created in honor of Maine poet Kay Evans by her friends and family.

Djerassi Artist-in-Residency Program, 2010

Location: spectacular rural setting in the Santa Cruz Mountains over-looking the Pacific Ocean

Program: designed as a retreat experience to pursue personal creative work and share in collegial interaction within a small community of artists.

Residencies: awarded competitively, at no cost, to national and international artists in the disciplines of choreography, literature, music composition, visual arts, and media arts/new genres.

Addressed to: emerging and mid-career artists, for whom appointments as resident artists may make a significant difference to their careers, as well as from established artists with national and/or international reputations.

Benefits: living and studio space for 4-5 week sessions, plus meals

Period: mid-March through mid-November.

Artists' Barn: contains 3 visual art studios, a large dance studio, a darkroom, and a music composition studio with a baby grand and electric piano.
